Hey there, I'm a sophomore in high school looking to get my first suit. I was wondering what color is good to get first, because I want to also be able to wear the jacket as a blazer. Any suggestions? Thanks
I would buy a black suit if you also want to use the jacket as a blazer. A black blazer would match just about any pants you could have. It would go great with khakis and jeans. Just make sure your blazer fits well, especially if you’re going to get some extra mileage out of it.
Hi! Your blog is awesome! I just had a quick couple of questions. As a tan guy (Mexican), what colors tend to go best with my skin color? Also, for a guy just beginning to build his wardrobe, what are some essentials shirts/pants/coats/etc. that I should have?
To be honest I wouldn’t worry about colors that don’t match your skin color. I would just pick colors you like and go with it.
For wardrobe essentials, lets start with shirts. You should get oxford shirts that are fitted. Even if you’re a bigger guy still buy fitted shirts. Baggy oxford shirts look awful. Also, as far as oxford shirts I usually prefer button downs, I feel like it looks neater to have your color buttoned down.
As far as pants go, find pants that make your butt look good. You need pants that are form fitting. They can’t be baggy or too long. Also remember that when you buy jeans they will stretch some. Buy them slightly tighter than you would want because after a few hours of wearing they will stretch out to look good. They’ll shrink back if you wash them and put them in the dryer but will stretch out again after a few hours.
You should also have a couple suits. Start with a black suit and if you can get a second one get a navy suit. Those are two good colors to start with. They don’t have to be expensive suits but you should definitely spend the money to get them tailored.
Hi I love your blog! I was just hoping for some quick advice. I have a job interview for Nordstrom coming up and I wanted to know if you could give me some ideas on what I could wear that would make me look fashion forward but not trying too hard. I was thinking a navy wool bomber jacket with a light blue button down underneath and a black and white striped knitted tie. Is that too much? Thanks:)
I would swap the jacket for a blazer but other than that I like your outfit
